Hasn't anyone ever heard the term 'boredom kills'? There was also the saying 'all work and no play makes for a very dull day', but even before then there was nothing glorious bound to happen in the outside world. Maybe that's why VII felt compelled to just lounge around Mac Anu rather than jump straight into a field from the get go; maybe he wasn't interested in anything in particular. There was nothing of interest going on where the young man lived, so perhaps out of some divine chance he would find something to do in 'the world', he decided it better to just sit-by and wait.
Wait for it.. wait for it..
Nothing.
Was he hoping to hear the chime of a private message over his headset as he stood by the chaos gate staring at the sky for no particular reason? Looking up, a little curious, but lazily he sighed when no message ever came. His friendslist remained empty, his inbox remained empty, and his mood seemed to be declining over the passing minutes of the day. Maybe if he were to refresh the gamestate and check again? Log out then back in again? Was it even worth trying? The young man stood silently still, his PC's gaze staring at the sky with a dull aimlessness in his eyes that just screamed for something exciting to happen.
As players warped into the root town and passed by him innocently enough, carrying on about their business and meeting up with other players then taking off to fields, VII couldn't help but feel a tad discouraged. The young man let himself wander from the spot he warped into, walking down those grand stairs at the chaos gate entrance then down the long walkway to the bridge crossing just one of the city's grand rivers. This place was calming, warming, trapped in an eternal sunset and cheerful music that would lul just about any player to sleep if they sat idle for too long.
Passing the crowds of busy players, VII's neutral expression never changed, but his eyes flickered about for a possible place to sit by the river and quietly ponder whatever he wished. Though his level was still low and his inventory was a little empty, the young man seemed reluctant to go leveling or seek anyone else out. He was annoyed at the world, annoyed with himself, but for some reason he did nothing about it. As he made his way down a narrow alleyway beside one of the many shops flooded with players, the blademaster took his seat finally at the end of his brief walk; ending in the far back of an alley with the perfect perch by the riverway.
Sitting down on the walkway's edge, VII set his sheathed sword by his left side and let his feet dangle over the edge; never close enough to touch the water surface, however. For a while he sat there, allowing his character to stare endlessly at the beautiful running water below; losing himself in his thoughts for a time. Should he go to the store for some groceries? 'Nah, it's raining.', he thought silently to himself. Should he go for a nap to pass the time? 'No point, I'd just sleep all day anyway.' For VII, there wasn't really much to do. Playing the game alone was starting to lose it's splendor.
So too, was so many things in VII's life, lately. [/style] |

Gating MURMUR in to Delta Server: Mac Anu. .... ... .. .
And the flash of light passes leaving MURMUR to stand in the center of the starter town of Mac Anu. There was still a lot to do in terms of orientation. MURMUR looked left and right. Tried walking forward and then backward. She took a jump. And then spun slowly in a full circle.
MURMUR was a white-haired template without tattoos. With dark red eyes. She had chosen a lanky frame and was clothed in the somewhat generic level one starter gear giving her look an androgynous cast. But she was an unmistakable twinblade.
Next, for a full minute she simply stood in the center of town and stared at her hand. Obviously, to the initiated, the player within was adjusting several controls. But that always gave the illusion of someone fallen asleep at the helm-- which-- needless to say-- was actually inaccurate.
After a minute and some change, MURMUR's attention snapped back into focus. And taking a slow stride around Mac Anu, she began to investigate her new surroundings. She was looking for someone else, someone blatantly unoccupied, to further test her interface. But she was also beginning to get a feel for the starter town. A rudimentary one of course.

GOODBYE COHERENCE, HELLO HAZY DREAMS ( lullaby lullaby lullaby lullaby ) MAC ANU. How long had it been since he last logged in? A few weeks, most likely, with homework being assigned left and right, readings to be caught up on, so many sleepless nights. Then again, shouldn't have he been using this time to sleep instead of exploring? Oh well, tomorrow was a weekend anyway, he could get away with a few more hours of sleep deprivation before soundly crashing on his bed. It was a shame though that he wouldn't be able to fully appreciate the delta server with a half-wake mind, the constant reminder of 'sleep, sleep, sleep' egging him on. All he had working with him was adrenaline, the rush of finally, finally being able to sit down and enjoy a good game, even if it was just exploration for the time being.
' The graphics are impressive, to say the least,' he thought to himself, ' smooth contours, colours that don't blind my eyes, good architecture, and all. ' This was actually his first time playing such a sophisticated mmorpg, to be honest, it seemed rather overwhelming when he first read through the manual, trying to figure out how the controls worked, along with the M2D gear and all. Whatever happened to old school gaming? Simple keyboard commands and mouse clicking? Then again, most of his classmates seemed really taken by the game (more like obsessed a times) so it would probably take only a few weeks for him to pick up the pace and handle the game like some pseudo-wannabe pro.
However, seeing as how he was quite new to this at the moment, and everyone else around seemed rather comfortable, he leisurely walked around with his hands cradling the back of his head and listened to snippets of conversations around. There wasn't anything useful to be heard besides 'grunty event' and 'guild recruitment' but anyway -- what the heck was a grunty? Maybe he should have read through the game history or forums before logging in since he really didn't want to feel like a total dork asking around what it was. Ugh, more reading; when would it end?
As he kept walking along, slowing down his pace considerably since his eyes were drooping behind his headgear, something caught his eye -- a glint, of sorts, or a reflection, some type of mirage up a head. The young man picked up his pace to a light jog and abruptly stopping before a wooden crossing, looking at it in wonderment. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Wait a minute. There was even a little river running below. For sure it was a river and not a stream, not with its size and the pace of what water. He approached the railing, peering into the water with a raised eyebrow, watching ripples traveling on its surface. He didn't expect seeing such a feature in this town, it seemed too medieval-like for his tastes and a moat suited the place better. " Wonder if you could skip stones or race toy boats on this or something... " He muttered in amusement.

Two... Three... Four...'
The minutes passed by endlessly, as VII by now could only tell time based on the loops in the city's background music. Each time that starting chime began, the following fifty-four seconds would immediately follow. Seamlessly, note-for-note, the song would continue in this same ongoing pattern for god knows however long. Could the song really go on forever? Better yet, would anyone really bother to stick around and listen for hours on end to this same thing over and over again? I guess it was lucky for the music itself that VII liked to stick around Mac Anu for hours at a time, just to listen, watch, take in all the city's on-goings as if he himself was one of the NPC's standing around; forever locked in their perpetually open shops and markets.
'Five... Six... Seven... Eight...'
He kept counting, the minutes kept passing, more players kept strolling by the many walkways and alleyways leading out or around the vast waterway; carrying on with their oh-so-busy gaming agendas. VII's depressing aura of boredom was probably leaking out through his headset and out of his player-character, as few people passing by or looking in his direction began to take notice that he hadn't left that spot for a while now. He sighed, staring at the water still, with his eyes drawing away every so often to catch a glimpse at someone walking by or a group of players carrying on with merry conversation.
'Nine... Ten... Eleven...! Arrgh!'
The young man seemed annoyed by this now, almost memorizing the background music that would normally calm him down in every other occasion. What made today so different anyway? Why was he getting frustrated about so many small things? Hell if he knew, but it was going to put him in a bad state of mind if he didn't find something to busy himself with soon. Rather than sit there for a while and 'hope' that someone would come along to talk to him, the blademaster changed his mind and finally got to his feet again. Standing there for a moment though to think and stretch out his arms a little, the player himself moved almost in unison with his character; taking a relaxing stretch to move out those locked muscles.
Picking up his sheathed sword then backtracking to the main bridge area, the young rogue made his way over to the river crossing, but before passing a crowd of players he passed a rather broody-looking player who seemed just as mesmerized by the water as VII had been just moments before. The dark guy muttered something about the river, as if it seemed one of the most amazing things to behold in [ the world ]. It wasn't too long ago that VII himself had started playing the game, and he remembered being blown away by the game surroundings as well the first day he logged in. For whatever reason, he was tempted to say something in reply to the player.
After slowing his walking pace close to the character checking out the water, he finally decided to go for it as he passed. "Just makes ya want to jump right in, doesn't it?" VII sighed in passing, probably guessing that his words were too low to hear or that he'd just be ignored like always.

Ask and ye shall receive. Look and two loafers shall be granted to thee.
Murmur spots two lingering players against the waterway who don't look like they're doing much of anything at all. That's perfect. She still needs to adjust her volume settings, her input controls, and other VR response systems in game-time. Best to talk to other players to do that. NPCs would do but they're not as interactive.
And so the tom-boy with the long white hair and crimson eyes approaches Faust and VII (not knowing their names yet). She's wearing level one gear of tunic and leggings, boots and gloves. The gloves have those classic fantasy jeweled discs on the back. Always something on the starter gear of potential mage characters like a Twinblade to show their mana potential. On her back are two chisa katana crossed in an X for dual wielding. One hilt is bone white and one hilt is black with an ornate red cord.
"Hey. Either of you want to help me finish optimizing my interface before I hit a field?"
Unaware that she's somewhat interrupted VII's commentary to Faust, she asks this to both at once. Even though her voice comes out as ambiguous and sullen, the unspoken invitation to hit up a field for XP if they're within level range is tacitly offered.
