 THE BATTLE INTENSIFIES... scorpoid unleashes a special attack.The scorpoid suffers from two assailants. Its own SP doubles as a result and it unleashes its first special attack. An area-of-effect vibrational shock ripples down through the area like watching a drop of water disturb a placid pool. The ground shakes and shock waves rip through with grievous force against both players. It can be difficult to avoid damage from this attack because it's not localized. Fortunately you have one player equipped with Repth.
However this leaves the scorpoid fatigued once the maneuver is completed. The monster will now be vulnerable to the special maneuvers that are sure to be unleashed by its assailants.  SCORPOID | level five | rue element STATUS: CRITICAL |

A tail is one thing but an AoE is another. The air about Akujiki rippled with the force of the ground attack as debris and dust are kicked up and tossed around them. He grits his teeth and braces as the shock waves assault him, pieces of debris nicking his face and he slid back along the ground. The distance between them opened.
The attack from the level five creature hurt and the player watched as his HP bar dropped substantially. As the waves subside he slouched forward a little with a gasp. There's only one word for an encounter like that. Ouch.
But he's still standing, if barely. As the scorpoid comes down off of it's attack and settles into something off balance it clicked automatically through Akujiki's awareness... An opening. He hoped that Murmur saw it as well.
The blademaster summoned the strength to take stance again, blade glinting along the edge. That attack gave him the final SP he needed to fully retaliate. Perhaps It had been wishful thinking that he wouldn't have had to unleash a special move even on such a foe as this but it was clear now. This fight needed to end.
Akujiki suddenly charged forward and in a blurred motion combined two diagonal swings into a single attack. The X-shaped attack burns the energy of fire. Cross Slash...Vak. The area of effect came in and all Murmur could do was weather it while particulate matter was tossed about and splinters fragmented from the walls to do some damage to her own HP bar. It took a chunk out of her virtual health. Nothing as substantial as Akujiki's, but the sort of attack that makes you glad you're a jack of all trades.
Before her the scorpoid's tail flags and its attention is diverted from her to a general poise focused on neither player in the moment. So she spies the opening to take. Had it just been her and her alone she would have attacked. But instead she looks toward that perilously red health bar on her party member, Akujiki, and begins to mutter a soft incantation.
The jewels of her cuffs glow as a blue-white light engulfs Akujiki. He begins to blur with an outstanding special attack. Fire appears in the air, whirling and manifesting with his own finishing move. Even though her own SP bar was blinking and standing ready to unlock another savage attack ... it was more important to keep her party member standing.
Besides, a Blademaster's attack was stronger than her own. Better to see if he could finish the thing and then unleash her own SP if necessary.
Her arm reaches toward the sky as the last of her incantation settles over the Blademaster in action. And most of his hit points are renewed. Somewhere in the real world, Murmur's player wears a cocky grin beneath the VR visor. Repth beats potion strength every time. The fact that Akujiki's still level one helps a lot too. There's a glint in her crimson eyes but that just might be the reflected fire. Murmur's Repth spell went off without a hitch in the confusion of the scorpoid attempting reestablish an order of enmity. That red bar of health bleeds back up into a yellowed green just shy of full.
There were some advantages to playing with someone just slightly higher level. This would have been one of them.
His stamina renewed Akujiki's ready to continue at any level necessary. He waits to see how much of his attack makes it through the scorpoid's defenses. YOU ARE VICTORIOUS ! superior teamwork overcame your adversary. The scorpoid crumples as Akujiki's Cross-slash Vak unleashes against its vulnerable hide. Even though Akujiki was only a level one player its status had been in the critical before his Vak move finished it off. Congratulations!
The higher level scorpoid's chitinous surface crumbles into an inert husk before it slowly begins to dematerialize before both players. All it leaves in its wake is the sound of someone gaining a level and the victory theme. Then, dust slowly trickles down from the abandoned rice mill around the two players. He watched until the scorpoid was completely gone before his stance relaxed. He did something particular in his motions then. His sword rose about level with the side of his head and then he gave it a sharp flick to the ground as if flicking something off of it. That wasn't a class thing. That was something in the player.
He looked over at Murmur and gave her a grin.
"So, Murmur is that kind of player. One who will sacrifice her own attack to keep another member of the party healed. Of the two choices you could have made in that moment you chose the selfless one."
His katana whirled with a flash in his grip as it was sheathed without looking. The blade clicked gently shut against the scabbard. He gave her a bow hinged at the waist.
"You have my thanks."
When he straightened again there was a wry grin on his face and a glint in those wolfish eyes.
"Hopefully now that I'm half way to level three I won't hold you back."
He was half joking. The other half really was in full acknowledgement that he wouldn't have made it out of that fight without her aid, no matter how much that might have pricked his pride.
